This stunning “Natural Form” period Victorian Ball Gown is destined to become a prized family heirloom. Genuine aquamarine and freshwater pearls heighten the glamour, richness and value of this gown.
The bodice is constructed of French Blue Floral Bengaline and is trimmed with French lace adorned with Aquamarine briolettes, blue freshwater pearls and hand beading. It is self-piped, and closes in back with hooks and eyes. It is boned and fully lined in blue cotton sateen. The bodice measures 40 inches in the bust and 32 inches in the waist. The 1878 Fantail Skirt features three rows of front ruching and a bottom row of box pleated Bengaline. Two rows of pleated Bengaline finish the train. The waist of the skirt is 31 inches and the skirt front is 40 inches. The skirt closes in back with hooks and eyes. The overskirt of French lace is adorned with Aquamarine briolettes, blue freshwater pearls and hand beading. The overskirt is front closed and lifted in the center back with a band of pleated organza and satin ribbon and silk organza ribbon flowers. Meticulous care and authentic sewing techniques have been employed in the construction of this gown. This gown is shown over a narrow hoop skirt and bustle pad which are not included. Aquamarine briolettes, blue freshwater pearls and hand beading have been added to the French embroidered lace of the wide Bertha collar to which silk organza ribbon flowers were added as accents. The silk organza ribbon flowers with blue pearl centers are featured again at the neckline and waistline of the ball gown bodice. The bodice sleeves are in the Chrysanthemum style.
