STAR OF CONSTANTINOPLE

Simply spectacular

When I stumbled onto a photo of the Charles F. Worth Harem Pants costume, I knew this look would be the corner stone costume of the Frocks of Ages "Stella D'Oro" line.

This dramatic four piece silk ensemble includes a jeweled ball gown bodice,

French fan-tail skirt, voluminous harem pants

and a Turkish style fez.

The bodice and skirt are of silk taffeta trimmed in genuine topaz briolettes,

hand made scroll work of silk,

fringes and tassels, bullion gimp, and jeweled appliqués from India.

The harem pants are made of a wonderful flocked taffeta.  They close at the top with hooks and eyes and are finished at the ankle with a self draw-string.

Measurements are as follows:

Bodice:  Bust 40 inches, Waist 32 inches

Skirt:  Waist 31 inches, Front Length 42 inches

Charles F. Worth Harem Pant Ball Gown

Description of Worth's pantaloons (The Met) - This Turkish style costume exhibits the European and American fascination with Turkish dress which stems from the 18th century and endured throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries. This trend culminated in 1911 with Paul Poiret's "harem" pants and Turkish themed fancy dress ball, "1002nd Night." This particular pair of Turkish trousers combined with its elaborately embroidered fashionable bodice, is appropriate for a fancy dress ball and indicates the lengths that people would go to for this type of costume event. Owning an expensive Worth fancy dress ball ensemble would have been the epitome of distinction and extravagance.
